Versant is a travel magazine for the well traveled, covering a single country or small region of the world at a time, and giving you an in depth look into a country or culture. The intention with this magazine is to create engaging content for global citizens, people who don't see travel purely as recreational fun but as a way for connectivity and understanding in our world.
The magazine is designed to have four main in-depth articles that relate to the country's culture, religion, politics, history, and/or traditions. Each issue would also include a quick reference page for currency exchange and useful language translation, a photo essay, a recipe related to one feature article, and a final page that encourages online engagement through member photo submissions, via social media.
The particular issue of Versant I chose to design for in this project was the country of Georgia, which is near to my heart. I served in the Peace Corps and subsequently lived there from 2005-2010.  To gather content, photographer Corinne Thrash and I traveled to Georgia for sixteen days. It was crucial that Versant have both strong storytelling and stunning imagery. The diversity of articles I collected took us to mountain homes and village drinking parties, third century churches and war-zone cemeteries. Corinne's images have such beautiful impact that many spreads of the feature articles are devoted to full bleed photographs to help with story immersion.
I curated every advertisement of the magazine to match the demographic interests of Versant's readers so they would connect to the content and have a smooth transition from one article to the next.
